Most vacuum listings quote wattage and stop there, which tells you what the motor draws from the wall rather than what the machine picks up off the floor. This one gives two figures that actually mean something, and they measure different things. Water column — 1600 mm here — is how hard the machine pulls. It is literally how far the suction would lift a column of water, and it is what matters for dust ground into upholstery, sand pressed into a car mat, or hair worked into a rug. Airflow — 14 litres per second — is how much air moves through. That is what matters for volume: crumbs, loose dust, dry leaves on a balcony. A machine needs both, and the two do not rise together. When comparing vacuums, ask for these rather than watts, because watts are not comparable between models and these are.
The blower — for everywhere the nozzle does not fit
Suction only works where you can get the nozzle in, and in most homes that leaves out the places holding the most dust. Window tracks and grills, the gap behind a fixed cupboard, the ribbed rubber of a car footwell, a balcony corner full of dry leaves, the vents on a computer, the underside of furniture that does not move. Reversing the airflow gets at them from the other direction: instead of reaching in, you blow the dust out into the open and then vacuum it up normally. Two things worth doing properly. Blow first and vacuum second, not the other way round, or you will simply redistribute what you have just cleaned. And open the windows and wear a mask — blowing dust out of a crevice means putting it into the air you are standing in, which is fine outdoors and worth thinking about indoors.
Thermal cut-out, and the 10–15 minute guidance
Eureka Forbes advise against running this machine continuously for more than 10 to 15 minutes at a stretch, and that guidance is worth taking at face value rather than treating as excessive caution. A compact handheld packs an 800 W motor into a small body with limited room for cooling airflow, which is the trade-off for a machine you can carry on a strap. The thermal overload cut-out is the backstop: if the motor does overheat, it shuts off rather than burning out. But a cut-out is protection against a failure, not permission to work the machine to that point. In practice this suits how a handheld is actually used — a car interior, a sofa, a set of stairs, a room — with a pause between. If you need to vacuum a whole house in one continuous run, a full-size machine is the right tool and we will say so.
