Whole,
then
groundwhy this beats buying powder

Everything that makes coffee and spice worth having sits in volatile aromatic oils, and those oils start escaping the instant the seed or bean is broken open. A packet of ground coffee is noticeably flat within two weeks of opening. Shop-bought jeera or dhania powder has usually been sitting far longer than that, which is why the same recipe tastes different when someone grinds their own. Whole spices and whole beans, by contrast, keep for months — the shell does the sealing. So the sensible approach is to buy whole and grind small quantities as you need them, which is exactly what a 30 gram grinder is for. Thirty grams is roughly a week of coffee for one person, or enough garam masala for several meals. The small capacity is not a compromise; grinding more than you will use in a fortnight defeats the entire purpose.

👁️

The transparent lid — how you control texture without a dial

This grinder has no grind-size setting, and it does not need one, because the control is time and you can see it happening. A blade grinder chops rather than mills, and the longer it runs the finer the result gets — so texture is set by how long you hold the button, not by a dial. The transparent lid is what turns that from guesswork into judgement. Three or four short bursts gives a coarse grind for a French press. Eight to ten gives a medium grind for a drip coffee machine. Longer still gives the fine powder you want for masala. One technique worth knowing: shake or swirl the grinder between bursts. A blade grinder pulverises whatever sits closest to it and leaves the rest coarse, so shaking redistributes the contents and is the difference between an even grind and a mix of dust and whole pieces.

🌶️

Dry only — and why that restriction exists

This is a dry grinder, and that is a genuine limit rather than cautious wording. It handles coffee beans, dry whole spices, nuts, seeds, dried herbs and sugar. It is not built for chutney, wet masala, ginger-garlic paste or anything with moisture, and using it that way will clog the chamber, strain the motor and let liquid reach places it should not. Two practical notes that follow from this. Dry the chamber thoroughly after any cleaning before you grind again, since even residual moisture makes spice powder cake to the walls. And be aware that strong spices leave their scent behind: grind chilli or garlic powder and the next batch of coffee will carry it. Running a spoonful of plain rice through and discarding it lifts most residual oils and odours, which is worth doing if the same grinder handles both coffee and masala.

One grinding chamber is supplied. If you want to keep coffee and masala completely separate, ask us whether a spare jar is available for this model — otherwise the rice trick above is the practical answer.

Thirty grams is a small chamber and this is a blade grinder, not a burr grinder. For a month's masala in one session, or for the very consistent grind a serious coffee setup wants, a mixer grinder or a burr grinder is the right tool — ask us and we will point you to one.

🔪 Stainless Steel Blade

Rust-resistant — which matters on a blade meeting salt, acidic spice and the oils in coffee and nuts, then sitting in a drawer between uses.

🛡️ Auto Shut-Off

Cuts power if the motor overheats. On a small grinder run in bursts, that protects against a jam or an over-long run damaging the motor.

🖐️ Push-Button Operation

Runs only while held, stops the instant you let go — which is what gives you burst control, and means it cannot be left running.

🪶 0.8 kg

Light enough to keep on the counter beside the kettle or pack for a trip — a footprint of 10 × 10 cm takes almost no space.

⚠️ A mains appliance with a blade that spins at high speed. Please read this. 1. The blade is sharp and stays sharp when the machine is off. Never reach into the chamber, and take particular care when emptying or cleaning it. 2. Never put a hand, spoon or utensil into the chamber while the unit is plugged in, and unplug before freeing anything jammed. 3. Unplug before cleaning, emptying or any maintenance. 4. Never run it empty, and do not fill past the 30 gram capacity — overfilling gives an uneven grind and strains the motor. 5. Dry ingredients only. No wet masala, chutney, ginger-garlic paste or anything containing moisture or liquid. 6. Work in short bursts and let the motor rest between them. Long continuous running overheats a small grinder and can scorch the contents. 7. Auto shut-off is a protective device, not a licence — if it cuts out, unplug it, let it cool fully, and check for a jam before restarting. 8. Keep the lid closed while it runs. Contents leave the chamber at speed if the lid is lifted mid-grind, and fine spice powder in the eyes is genuinely painful. 9. Grinding chilli releases irritant dust — let the powder settle before opening the lid, and keep your face away. 10. Never immerse the motor unit in water. Wipe it with a damp cloth; the chamber must be completely dry before the next use. 11. Connect to a properly earthed socket, do not use with wet hands or on a wet surface, and keep it out of reach of children. 12. Do not use if the cord, plug, lid or body is cracked or damaged, and stop immediately if the motor labours, smells hot or the sound changes.

Warranty as per Glen terms and conditions. No warranty duration is stated in supplier material for this model; the term, scope of cover, parts and labour, exclusions, product registration and the service process must be confirmed in writing before purchase. Blades, jars, lids and seals are wear or accessory items and may be excluded from cover or covered for a shorter period; damage arising from misuse, overfilling, grinding wet or moist ingredients, running the appliance empty or beyond its run-time limit, immersion of the motor unit or unauthorised servicing is commonly excluded. ISI certification is indicated on the stock reference for this item but is not stated in the supplied description and should be confirmed. Continuous run time limit, operating voltage, whether the grinding chamber is removable, spare jar availability and cord length are not stated in supplier material and should be confirmed before purchase. Power, capacity, dimensions, weight and materials are manufacturer specifications; motor power in watts is the electrical input rating and is not by itself a measure of grinding performance. This appliance is a blade grinder, which chops rather than mills: grind texture is controlled by run time rather than by a setting, results vary across a batch unless the contents are redistributed between bursts, and consistency is not comparable to a burr grinder. Grinding results depend on the ingredient, its hardness, dryness and quantity, blade condition and technique. This is a dry grinder and must be used only with dry ingredients; wet masala, chutney, pastes and any ingredient containing moisture or liquid must not be ground. Strong spices leave residual aroma in the chamber which can carry into subsequent batches. Explanations of aromatic freshness, blade grinding, burst technique and residue removal provided here are general information to aid understanding and are not manufacturer specifications. This appliance has a 30 gram capacity and is not a substitute for a mixer grinder for household quantities or wet grinding. This product is a kitchen appliance and not a medical device or a nutritional product. It is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease or condition, and no health or dietary outcome is claimed or implied. The blade is sharp and must be handled with care at all times, including when the appliance is switched off and during cleaning; no hand or utensil should be introduced into the chamber while it is connected to the mains, and the appliance must be unplugged before cleaning, emptying or clearing a jam. It must not be run empty or filled beyond its stated capacity, and the lid must remain closed during operation as contents are ejected at speed if opened. Grinding chilli and similar spices releases irritant dust which should be allowed to settle before the lid is opened. Auto shut-off is a protective device that interrupts operation on overheating and does not remove the need for burst operation and cooling intervals. The motor unit must never be immersed in water and the chamber must be completely dry before use. The appliance must be connected to a properly earthed socket, must not be operated with wet hands or on wet surfaces, and must be kept out of reach of children. Discontinue use if the cord, plug, lid or body is damaged, or if the motor labours, overheats or sounds abnormal.
