Indian AC installations face two specific durability challenges that determine whether an outdoor unit performs as rated after 3–5 years of operation: condenser fin corrosion and refrigerant heat exchange efficiency. The condenser fins — the thin aluminium or copper fins that line the outdoor unit's heat exchanger — are exposed to ambient air continuously, and in Indian urban environments this air contains sulphur dioxide (from vehicle exhaust), particulate matter, salt (in coastal cities and during monsoon), and high humidity. Standard bare aluminium fins corrode in this environment within 2–3 years, developing pitting and surface oxide layers that reduce the fin's thermal conductivity and restrict airflow through the fin gaps — both effects reduce the condenser's heat rejection capacity, causing the compressor to work harder, draw more current, and deliver lower cooling output. Blue Fin technology applies a hydrophilic resin coating to the condenser fins — the coating resists the adhesion of corrosive agents to the fin surface, preventing the electrochemical reactions that cause aluminium pitting.
