Almost nobody buys a cooler on the motor, and almost every cooler that fails, fails there or at the pump. The conditions are genuinely hostile: a motor running ten hours a day in 43°C heat, and a pump sitting permanently in water that's often hard, dusty and full of mineral deposits. Cheap pumps scale up and stop lifting water — at which point the pads dry out and the cooler is just a noisy fan. This is an unusual figure and worth pausing on. Desert coolers of this capacity typically weigh 30 kg or more empty; this one is 17.8 kg, which changes how you live with it. It's manageable to move between rooms, lift over a threshold, carry up to a terrace, or put away at the end of the season — all things that are genuinely difficult with a heavier unit. The footprint is compact too at 62.8 × 49.5 cm, standing 112 cm tall. If the cooler needs to move around — shop floor by day, back room at night, terrace at the weekend — this is the one that actually will.
Cross-ventilation — the thing that decides whether you're happy with it
An evaporative cooler is not an air conditioner, and this is where expectations go wrong. It cools by evaporating water into moving air, so that humid air has to be able to leave the room — you need a window, door or vent open on the far side. In a sealed room it raises the humidity and stops feeling cool, whatever the specification. It performs superbly in dry heat — precisely Delhi's April to June — and noticeably less well in humid monsoon weeks. Get the airflow right and an 87-litre cooler is remarkably effective for the money; get it wrong and no cooler will satisfy.
