This is the single most common reason someone replaces a blower heater, and it's worth understanding before you buy either. A fan or coil heater works by making an element glow and blowing air across it — which heats the air harshly and dries it out. Sleep in that room and you wake with a dry throat, dry skin and often a headache; it's particularly hard on children, older people and anyone prone to sinus trouble. An oil filled radiator doesn't do that. The oil is sealed inside the fins — never refilled, never replaced — and heats them gently, so the fins radiate warmth into the room the way a hot water bottle warms a bed. The air stays comfortable.
Silent, and it stays warm after it switches off
There is no fan in this heater, so there is genuinely nothing to hear — which is why an OFR is the standard recommendation for a bedroom, a nursery or a study. A blower's hum is tolerable in a living room and maddening at 2 am. The second advantage follows from the design: oil holds heat. The fins take longer to warm up than a blower takes to blast — that's the honest trade — but once warm they keep radiating after the thermostat cuts the element, so the room stays even rather than swinging hot and cold. Put it on twenty minutes before bed and the room is right when you get in.

This is a high-wattage appliance and the wiring matters. Plug it into a proper earthed 16 A high-load socket — the kind an AC or geyser uses — not a light 6 A point and never a multi-plug extension board, which is a genuine fire risk at this draw. On running cost: the three heat settings exist for exactly this reason. Warm the room on high, then drop to low — the fins are already hot and the low setting simply maintains them, using far less power. Running an OFR on high all night is the mistake that produces a shocking electricity bill and gives oil heaters an undeserved reputation for being expensive.
