A fixed 1-ton AC runs at 1 ton whether the room holds one person at a desk or six people at dinner. Convertible cooling lets you dial the machine down — run it at a fraction of capacity when it's just you working through the afternoon, and step it up to full tonnage when the room fills or the day is brutal. Lower capacity means the compressor draws less and the unit runs quieter, and across a Delhi summer of mostly-one-person afternoons, that adds up to real money. On an air conditioner, two components decide whether you're buying once or twice. The compressor is the expensive heart of the machine; the PCB — the control board — is the part that fails quietly in an inverter AC and costs a great deal to replace. 1 ton — get the sizing right or nothing else matters
This is the single most common mistake in buying an AC, and it's worth two minutes before you order. 1 ton suits a room of roughly 110 sq ft — a standard bedroom, a study, a home-office setup, a small cabin. Undersize it and the machine runs flat out all day, never quite reaching temperature, costing you more electricity than the bigger unit would have. Oversize it and it short-cycles — cooling fast, switching off, switching on again — which is inefficient and leaves the room clammy because it never runs long enough to pull moisture out.
