Delhi has a real winter, and most people deal with it badly. The usual answer is a blower or a rod heater — which dries the air out until your throat and skin suffer, draws heavy current, burns dust on the element, and has to be stored for eight months of the year. A hot-and-cold AC simply runs its refrigeration cycle in reverse, moving warmth from outside into your room. It doesn't burn anything, doesn't glow, and doesn't parch the air the way an element heater does. It's the same box on your wall, the same remote, one button. For a bedroom, that is the difference between a comfortable January and a dry-throated one — and you buy and install nothing extra.
Auto defrost — the feature that decides whether the heating actually works
This is the part of hot-and-cold that cheap units get wrong, and it's worth understanding. When an AC heats, the outdoor coil gets very cold — and on a damp Delhi winter morning, ice forms on it. Iced coil, no heat transfer, and the warm air stops coming just when you want it most. Sensors in the outdoor unit detect that freezing and briefly warm the coil to clear the ice, then resume heating. Without this cycle, a hot-and-cold AC gradually stops heating through the coldest part of the morning — which is exactly when people conclude the feature "doesn't work". It's an unglamorous specification that determines whether you actually get winter comfort or just a claim on a box.
PM2.5 plus activated carbon — particulate and smell, which is unusual at this price
Two filters, doing two different jobs. The PM2.5 filter catches fine particulate — the thing Delhi's AQI number is actually measuring — while the high-density dust filter handles coarser dust. But the addition here is activated carbon, which works on a different problem entirely: odour and gaseous smells, the kind particulate filters pass straight through. Cooking smells, smoke drifting in from outside, the stale note in a shut room. And because this unit heats as well as cools, the filters keep working through winter — the months when Delhi's air is at its worst and an ordinary AC sits switched off. It is not a dedicated air purifier and we won't claim it is, but as a bonus on a machine you're already buying, it's genuinely useful.

The compressor varies its speed rather than switching fully on and off — steadier temperature, less noise, lower draw once the room is settled.
Motorised horizontal and vertical louvres. Matters more in heating mode — warm air rises, so you want it pushed downward, not along the ceiling.
More ACs underperform from bad installation than bad manufacturing. Insist on correct gas pressure, drainage slope and a short pipe run.
