Ask anyone who has owned a glass hob for a few years what actually went wrong, and it's rarely the burners — it's what got inside. Milk boils over, dal spits, water runs off a lifted lid, and on most hobs those liquids find their way through the burner base into the body, where they corrode components, breed smells and are effectively impossible to clean. Bosch's Zero Leak design uses a fully sealed burner base so spills, overflows and drips stay on the glass. You wipe the surface and the job is done. It's better hygiene, easier cleaning, and it's the reason this hob should still be working properly in year eight.
Full brass 3D ring burners — and why the flame should be blue
The colour of your flame tells you how completely the gas is burning. A yellow or orange flame means incomplete combustion — wasted gas, soot on the base of your vessels, and carbon in the air. The full brass 3D ring burners here produce an intense blue flame with efficient combustion and no carbon emission, and the 3D ring geometry spreads heat uniformly across the base of the cookware rather than concentrating it in a hot circle at the centre. Full brass matters for lifespan: brass conducts heat well and resists the corrosion from spills and heat cycling that distorts cheaper burner ports over time. Built for daily, heavy usage.
Flame Failure Safety Device — the one feature worth insisting on
The most dangerous thing a gas hob can do is keep releasing gas after the flame has gone out — and it happens easily: milk boils over, a draught from an open window catches a low simmer, a pan spills. If nobody is standing there, gas fills the kitchen unnoticed. The FFSD continuously monitors the flame and, if it goes out while gas is still flowing, cuts off the supply automatically. It isn't standard at every price point. In a home with children or elderly parents, or simply a busy kitchen where you step away, it's the single feature that justifies choosing one hob over another.
