This is the practical difference between this machine and a built-in one, and for most households it's the deciding factor. A built-in dishwasher needs a cabinet cut to size, a door panel made by your carpenter, and plumbing brought into that cabinet — which is straightforward if your kitchen is being built, and a real project if it isn't. A free-standing machine has a finished steel front and simply stands where you put it. It still needs a water point, a drain and a socket — but no carpentry, no panel and no cabinet modification. You can also take it with you if you move. If your kitchen is already done and you want a dishwasher now rather than at the next renovation, this is the one to look at.
Total Water Protection — insurance against the failure that ruins a floor
Of everything that can go wrong with a dishwasher, one failure costs far more than the machine: a leak. A hose or seal that gives way while nobody is home puts water across the kitchen floor for hours — and in a flat, into the ceiling of whoever lives below you. The repair to the dishwasher is minor; the damage to flooring, cabinetry and a neighbour's ceiling is not. Total Water Protection monitors for water in the base and shuts off the supply if it finds any, rather than letting it run. It's the sort of feature nobody asks about in a showroom and everybody wishes they had once. Worth having on a machine you'll run overnight or while out of the house.
The third rack — what an extra drawer actually changes
Most dishwashers put cutlery in a basket that sits in the lower rack, occupying space that a kadhai or a set of pans could have used. A third rack is a shallow drawer across the top of the machine — spoons, forks, knives and ladles lie flat in it, and the lower basket is left entirely free for cookware. That's what makes 15 place settings genuinely usable rather than a number on paper. It also washes cutlery better: laid flat and separated, each piece gets water on it, instead of nesting together in a basket where spoons stack and hide each other. Combined with 6 flip tines, two cup racks and a bottle holder, the loading flexibility is the real advantage of the Series 6 over a simpler machine.
