This is the quietest machine in our range, and on a dishwasher that number decides how the appliance actually gets used. Decibels run on a logarithmic scale, so 42 dB is meaningfully quieter than a 48 or 50 dB machine, not marginally. In practice it sits below the level of ordinary conversation — which means it can run while the family is eating, while the television is on, or overnight with bedrooms nearby. In a modern open-plan flat with no door between the kitchen and the living room, a loud dishwasher gets postponed until everyone goes to bed, and a postponed dishwasher is one that fills up with dirty plates. A quiet one gets loaded and started as soon as dinner ends.
Dosage Assist — the small detail that fixes chalky residue
On an ordinary dishwasher the detergent tablet sits in a door dispenser that opens at the start of the wash. The problem is timing: at that moment the water may not be hot enough or moving in the right place, so part of the tablet doesn't dissolve properly and ends up as chalky residue on glasses and in the bottom of the machine. Dosage Assist drops the tablet into a dedicated tray in the upper basket instead, where it sits directly in the spray and dissolves fully at the right point in the cycle. The practical result is that the detergent you paid for actually gets used on your dishes rather than half of it going down the drain — and it's one of the reasons a Bosch tends to keep washing well as it ages.
Automatic programmes — the setting to use when you can't decide
Most people pick a programme by guessing, and usually guess high — running an intensive cycle on a load that didn't need it, wasting water, energy and time. The automatic programmes take that decision away: sensors read how full the machine is and how dirty the water becomes early in the wash, then set the temperature and rinse duration to match. A light load of plates gets a short gentle cycle; a heavy load of greasy cookware gets a longer hotter one — without you having to judge it. For a household where several people load the machine, this is the setting worth teaching everyone, because it removes the commonest way a good dishwasher gets used badly.
