A mixer-grinder makes you bring the food to the machine. A hand blender goes to the food, and that difference is bigger than it sounds. Making tomato soup or dal in a mixer means ladling hot liquid into a glass jar, blending in batches, and pouring it back — which is messy, needs a jar and a spatula washed afterwards, and is genuinely risky with anything near boiling. With this, you switch off the flame and blend straight in the pan. Nothing gets transferred, nothing spills between vessels, and the only thing to wash is the shaft. The same applies to a single portion — one bowl of baby food or one glass of lassi isn't worth dragging out a mixer for, and this is out, used and rinsed in under two minutes.
Splash Control and EasyTwist — the two details that decide if you keep using it
Plenty of people buy a hand blender, use it twice and leave it in a cupboard. Two things usually cause that, and both are addressed here. The first is splatter: a badly shaped blade guard throws chutney up the shaft and out of the bowl, so you end up wiping the counter, the wall and yourself. The Splash Control shaft shape directs the flow back down into the vessel instead. The second is cleaning: if getting the shaft off is a struggle, the machine gets rinsed badly and put away sticky.
