Two ways
inground coffee or E.S.E. pods
This is the feature worth understanding, because it quietly solves the problem that makes people abandon manual espresso machines. Making espresso properly takes a couple of minutes: dose the basket, tamp it level, lock it in, pull the shot, knock out the puck, rinse. That is a pleasure on a Sunday and a nuisance at 7:40 on a Tuesday, and machines that only work one way tend to end up unused. This one takes E.S.E. pods as well. E.S.E. stands for Easy Serving Espresso — a 44 mm paper pod holding a pre-tamped dose of ground coffee, an open industry standard rather than one brand's plastic capsule. You drop it in, pull the shot, and throw the paper away. No dosing, no tamping, no mess, and because it is a standard you can buy pods from many roasters rather than being locked to one supplier. Ground coffee when you want to make coffee; a pod when you just want coffee.
Thermoblock — why it's ready when you are
Older espresso machines use a boiler: a tank of water kept hot, which means waiting several minutes for it to come up to temperature and then keeping it hot whether you are using it or not. A Thermoblock works the other way around. It is a heated metal block with a narrow channel running through it, and water is heated as it passes through, on demand, in seconds. Three practical consequences follow. You wait far less between switching on and pulling a shot, which is the difference between a machine you use daily and one you use at weekends. You waste less electricity, because nothing is being kept hot in the background — which is also what the energy saving mode builds on. And the brew temperature is more consistent shot to shot, because each one is heated fresh rather than drawn from a tank that is cooling. It is the right design for a home machine used a few times a day.
The frother — honestly, what it will and won't do
This machine has an adjustable cappuccino frother rather than a bare steam wand, and the difference is worth being straight about. An adjustable frother draws air in through a sleeve and mixes it into the milk for you, with a control you turn towards more or less foam. That makes it considerably easier for a beginner: you will get a good, thick, cappuccino-style foam on your first attempt, without the technique a bare wand demands. What it is less suited to is the very fine, glossy microfoam that latte art is poured with — that generally needs a bare wand and practice. So if your drink is a cappuccino, a latte or a milky coffee, this frother will serve you well and with far less frustration. If your ambition is specifically to pour patterns into a flat white, tell us and we'll point you at a machine with an open wand instead.
🎯 Right for
A sensible first step up rather than a specialist machine. The pod option means it stays useful even on the days you can't be bothered — which is exactly why it doesn't end up at the back of a cupboard.
Stops at your set volume so the shot is the same length every time. It's what turns a good espresso from luck into something you can repeat.
Raise it for espresso cups, drop it for a tall glass. Means iced coffee goes straight into the glass rather than being brewed small and poured over.
The top plate warms your cups. Underrated — a cold ceramic cup pulls several degrees out of a small espresso before you've even lifted it.
Metal rather than plastic on a machine that heats and cools daily for years, and it feels solid when you twist the filter holder home.

Warranty as per De'Longhi India's terms and conditions — 1 year as stated in supplier material. The scope of cover, parts and labour, exclusions, product registration and the service process are subject to brand or importer policy and the final invoice or warranty card. Damage arising from scale build-up, failure to descale, use of an incorrect descaling product, use of unsuitable water, immersion of the machine body or unauthorised servicing is commonly excluded; consumable and accessory items including filters, seals, the water tank and drip tray may be excluded or covered for a shorter period. This is a manual pump espresso machine with a filter holder and does not include a coffee grinder; ground coffee, E.S.E. pods or a separate grinder is required and is not supplied. E.S.E. pods are an open industry standard and are not supplied with the machine; pod availability, size compatibility and quality vary by supplier and should be checked before purchase. A tamper and milk jug are not listed among the box contents and should be confirmed before purchase. Coffee quality, extraction, crema, milk texture and drink temperature depend substantially on the coffee used, its roast level, freshness and grind, the dose and tamp applied, water quality and temperature, cup preheating, machine cleanliness and scale condition, and on user technique; results improve with practice and no particular outcome is guaranteed. The adjustable cappuccino frother is designed to produce cappuccino-style foam and is not equivalent to an open steam wand for producing fine microfoam or for latte art. Full unit dimensions beyond the stated 15 cm width, unit weight, operating voltage and maximum cup clearance height are not stated in supplier material and should be confirmed before purchase and before planning counter space. This appliance produces pressurised hot water and live steam which can cause severe burns: the frother remains hot after use, the filter holder must not be removed during extraction, and the machine must be kept out of reach of children during and after operation. Only removable parts may be washed; the machine body must never be immersed and the appliance must be unplugged before cleaning. Regular cleaning of the frother and periodic descaling are required and are the user's responsibility; Thermoblock heating systems use a narrow water channel and may be more sensitive to scale than boiler systems. Descaling products, filters and servicing are chargeable separately unless expressly included on the final invoice. In hard-water areas the use of filtered or treated water is recommended. The appliance must be used on a flat, stable, heat-tolerant surface and connected to a properly earthed socket.
