An air purifier has two prices: the one on the box, and the one you pay every eighteen months for the rest of its life. Most people only find out the second one when the filter light comes on. We list this filter openly and at its real price so you can do the arithmetic before you commit to a machine, not after — take the filter price, divide by the life you'll realistically get from it, and that's your annual cost of clean air. Run that same calculation on any purifier you're comparing against. A cheaper machine with a thin filter that needs changing every six months costs more over five years than a dearer one rated at 8500 hours, and the gap is usually larger than the difference in purchase price. Three things that make this filter last longer
The 8500-hour figure assumes ordinary conditions, and there are things you control that move it. First: wash the pre-filter. The Airmega AIM's pre-filter is washable and reusable, and its whole job is to catch hair, lint and coarse dust before they reach this cartridge. Rinsing it regularly is free and it directly extends the life of the part you pay for. Second: run the machine on Auto rather than permanently on high — a filter loads up with particulate, and pushing more air through it than the room needs simply uses it up faster. Third: keep the windows closed while it runs. A purifier competing with an open window in a Delhi November is processing outdoor air continuously, and the filter pays for that. In a smoky kitchen or a heavy-pollution household, expect the shorter end of the range.
Why the genuine part is worth it on a filter specifically
With most spare parts the argument for genuine is about durability. With a filter it's about sealing. A purifier only cleans the air that goes through the filter medium — and if a copy cartridge doesn't seat exactly, air takes the easier path around the edges instead of through it. The machine sounds the same, the fan runs the same, the AQI light still changes colour, and you have no way of knowing you're filtering a fraction of what you should be. That is the specific failure mode that makes cheap replacements a false economy on this one component. Genuine cartridges are also matched to the fan's designed resistance, so airflow and noise stay as intended rather than the motor working against a filter it wasn't built for. This is a consumable replacement part for the Coway Airmega AIM (AP-0623B) air purifier and is not compatible with other purifier models. The customer is responsible for confirming model compatibility before purchase; we are happy to verify this against a photograph of the unit's rating plate. Opened or used filters cannot be returned or exchanged; return, replacement and any warranty terms for consumables are subject to unopened condition, brand policy and the final invoice. Filters are consumables and are not covered by the air purifier's product warranty. Filtration performance, odour reduction, airflow and filter life depend on the purifier model and its condition, room size, layout and ventilation, outdoor air quality, pollution and dust levels, cooking and smoking activity, humidity, fan speed selected, hours of operation, pre-filter maintenance, correct seating of the cartridge and general upkeep; the stated life of up to 8500 hours is a manufacturer estimate under typical conditions and is not a guarantee — it will be shorter in high-pollution environments, kitchens, smoking households, pet homes or with continuous high-speed operation. Replace the filter when the appliance's indicator calls for it and reset the indicator as described in the user manual. Air purifier filters reduce airborne particulate and odours; they are not medical devices and do not prevent, diagnose, treat or cure any disease, allergy, asthma or infection, and must not be relied on as protection against infection. Do not wash, rinse, vacuum or otherwise attempt to clean or reuse HEPA or activated carbon media unless the Coway user manual for your model expressly permits it; doing so damages the filter medium and impairs performance.
