78 cm · Three Burners · FFD.

3.8 kW
2.5 · 1.5ask every brand for this
Most hob listings tell you how many burners there are and call one of them "large". This one publishes actual kilowatt figures, and that is the number worth comparing. Burner output in kW is what determines whether water boils quickly, whether a tadka gets properly hot, and whether a heavy kadhai reaches temperature or just sits there warming. A 3.8 kW triple-ring burner is a genuinely powerful burner — enough for high-heat stir-frying, fast boiling and the kind of cooking where you want real flame under a wide vessel. The 2.5 kW handles the everyday sabzi and dal work; the 1.5 kW is your simmer and tea burner, and it will hold a low flame properly rather than threatening to go out. When you compare this against another hob, ask that brand for their kW figures. If they won't give them, that tells you something on its own.
Manual ignition — know this before you buy
This hob does not have auto ignition. You light the burners yourself, with a lighter or a match. We put that plainly because it is the one thing on this page most likely to surprise someone, and it is easily missed in a spec table. There is a reasonable case for it: there is no ignition battery to die, no spark unit to fail, and one fewer electrical component on a gas appliance — which is part of why this hob costs less than the auto-ignition models in the same series. But if you are used to turning a knob and having the burner light, this will feel like a step back, and you should choose knowingly. Note that manual ignition and FFD together mean you must hold the knob in for a few seconds after lighting — the flame has to heat the FFD sensor before it will hold the gas valve open. Let go too early and the burner goes out. That is normal, not a fault.
🔥 The three burners, and what each one is for
3.8 kW · TRIPLE RING
The powerful one. Stir-frying, fast boiling, tadka, and any wide heavy vessel that needs real flame across its base.
2.5 kW · DUAL RING
The everyday burner. Dal, sabzi, a pressure cooker, rice — most of your daily cooking lives here.
1.5 kW · DUAL RING
The gentle one. Tea, milk, simmering, keeping something warm without scorching the base.
78 cm with three burners — and what to confirm before cutting
Three burners spread across 78 cm is an unusual and rather generous layout. Most three-burner hobs are 60 cm; this gives each burner roughly a third more room, which means a wide kadhai on the big burner does not crowd whatever is beside it. If you cook in large vessels but don't need four burners, this is the sensible shape. Before ordering, though: this is a built-in hob and the cut-out is not the same size as the hob. Full external dimensions are not stated in supplier material for this model, and neither is the cut-out — both must come from Crompton's installation template before any granite or quartz is cut, because an oversized opening cannot be repaired. Ask us for the template and we'll go through your counter plan with you.
🎯 Right for
Less suited to: anyone who wants push-and-turn ignition, or a household that needs four burners going at once. Tell us how you cook and how wide your counter is and we'll point you at the right hob in the range.
Cuts the gas if a flame dies — from a boil-over, a draught or a wet vessel base. The reason to choose any hob with FFD over one without.
Heavy enough that a full pressure cooker sits dead stable, and they don't distort over years the way thin pressed frames do.
Darker than the grey models, and 8 mm where most hobs use 6. Black shows water marks more, so keep a dry cloth handy.
Metal rather than plastic: they take heat, they don't discolour, and they give finer control at the simmer end.

Crompton HOB-SSHB783-MBL · SensoSafe Half Brass · 78 cm Built-In Hob · 3 Burners · 3.8 kW Triple Ring + 2.5 kW & 1.5 kW Dual Ring · FFD · Manual Ignition · 8 mm Midnight Black Toughened Glass · Cast Iron Pan Supports · Metal Knobs · 2-Year Warranty
Warranty as per Crompton's terms and conditions — 2 years on the product; the scope of cover, treatment of the glass top, burners, pan supports, knobs, the gas valve and the flame failure safety device, parts and labour, exclusions, registration requirements and the service process are subject to brand policy and the final invoice or warranty card. Glass breakage and damage arising from impact, thermal shock, misuse or improper cleaning is generally not covered. This model has manual ignition and does not include an auto-ignition system. This is a gas appliance and must be installed and connected by a qualified gas technician using a compatible regulator and an ISI-marked gas hose; the hose must be inspected regularly and replaced at the interval marked on it. LPG and PNG supply types differ; confirm your supply before ordering, and where a nozzle conversion is required it must be carried out by an authorised technician and is chargeable separately. Full external dimensions and cut-out dimensions are not stated in supplier material for this model and must be obtained from the manufacturer's installation template before any counter cutting; the cut-out is smaller than the appliance's external dimensions, counter cutting of granite, quartz or other worktop material is irreversible, cannot be corrected if oversized, and is the customer's responsibility to verify before work begins. Counter cutting, stone work, carpentry, cabinet modification, sealing, gas hose, regulator, nozzle kit, installation hardware, installation labour and any civil work are chargeable separately unless expressly included on the final invoice; site readiness, including a suitable gas point and cabinet clearance below the hob, is the customer's responsibility. The Flame Failure Safety Device interrupts gas supply to a burner when that burner's flame is extinguished; it is a safety feature only, is not a gas leak detector, does not protect against leaks elsewhere in the installation, and does not make it safe to leave cooking unattended. The appliance must be used only in a well-ventilated kitchen and never for space heating; the cylinder valve should be closed after use, and leak testing must be carried out with soap solution and never with a flame. Stated burner outputs of 3.8 kW, 2.5 kW and 1.5 kW are manufacturer specifications; actual flame output, gas consumption, cooking times and burner life depend on gas quality and pressure, regulator condition, installation, burner and sensor cleanliness, cookware size, weight and material, ambient conditions, user technique and maintenance. Brass burners discolour with normal use, which is not a defect, and cast iron supports may show surface rust if left wet. The burner material described in the specification and the "Half Brass" series designation should be confirmed with us before purchase.
