Four in
sixtythe honest trade-off
Fitting four burners into a 60 cm hob is a real convenience and a real compromise, and you should know both before you choose. The convenience: during a proper meal you have dal on one, sabzi on another, a tawa going and tea or rice on the fourth — and with three burners something is always waiting its turn. For a family cooking full meals daily, that fourth burner earns itself back every evening. The compromise is spacing. Four burners in 60 cm sit closer together than four in a 75 or 90 cm hob, so you cannot run four large vessels at once — two big pans plus two smaller ones is realistic. If you routinely cook in wide kadhais, a 75 cm hob is the better buy and we'll say so. But if your counter is 60 cm and four burners are what you want, this is exactly the machine for it.
FFD — what it's actually protecting you from
A Flame Failure Device is a thermocouple that senses whether a flame is really burning and closes the gas valve within seconds if it isn't. The situations it exists for are ordinary ones: milk or dal boiling over and drowning the flame, a gust from an open window, a wet vessel base, a knob knocked open while wiping the hob. Without FFD, in every one of those cases gas keeps flowing into the kitchen with nothing to burn it. That is how most domestic gas accumulations happen — not a dramatic leak, but a flame that went out quietly while nobody was in the room. It matters more on a four-burner than a two-burner, simply because there are four flames to keep an eye on and more chance one of them is behind you. If there are children, elderly parents or domestic help in the house, this is the specification worth paying for.
Built-in or hobtop — settle this before you order
A built-in hob drops into a cut-out and sits flush with the counter; a hobtop stands on top like a conventional stove. This model does either, which is genuinely useful — buy it now for an existing kitchen and it still suits a modular counter later. But the flush look means someone cuts your counter, and that is not a delivery-day discovery. Cutting granite or quartz is skilled, chargeable work, and once it's cut it cannot be undone — so the cut-out must be measured from Crompton's installation template, never from the hob's outer dimensions. The unit is 600 × 525 mm with 135 mm sitting below the glass, so the cabinet underneath needs clear space and the gas point has to reach. Send us a photo of your counter and we'll go through it properly before anything is committed.
🎯 Right for
If you cook mostly in large kadhais, ask about a 75 cm hob instead. Four burners in 60 cm means four vessels only if two of them are small — we'd rather size it right than have you working around it daily.
Flame spreads outward across the vessel base rather than concentrating in a ring — which is what stops the middle of a tawa cooking faster than the edge.
Heavy enough that a full pressure cooker sits dead stable, and they don't distort over years the way thin pressed frames do.
Turn and it lights. Keep a spare battery — when the spark stops it's almost always the battery, not a fault.
Metal rather than plastic: they take heat, they don't discolour, and they give finer control at the simmer end.

Crompton HOB-SSFB604SP-MBU · SensoSafe Plus · 60 cm Built-In Hob · 4 × 3D Brass Burners · Flame Failure Device · Battery Auto Ignition · 8 mm Grey Toughened Glass · Cast Iron Pan Supports · Metal Knobs · Built-In Or Hobtop · Made In India · 2-Year Comprehensive Warranty
Warranty as per Crompton's terms and conditions — 2 years comprehensive; the scope of cover, treatment of the glass top, burners, pan supports, knobs, the auto-ignition system and the flame failure device, parts and labour, exclusions, registration requirements and the service process are subject to brand policy and the final invoice or warranty card. Glass breakage and damage arising from impact, thermal shock, misuse or improper cleaning is generally not covered. This is a gas appliance and must be installed and connected by a qualified technician using a compatible regulator and an ISI-marked gas hose; the hose must be inspected regularly and replaced at the interval marked on it. The appliance is supplied configured for LPG; use with piped natural gas requires a nozzle conversion carried out by an authorised technician and is chargeable separately. Cut-out dimensions must be taken from the manufacturer's installation template and not from the appliance's external dimensions; counter cutting of granite, quartz or other worktop material is irreversible and is the customer's responsibility to verify before work begins. Counter cutting, stone work, carpentry, cabinet modification, sealing, gas hose, regulator, nozzle kit, installation hardware, installation labour and any civil work are chargeable separately unless expressly included on the final invoice; site readiness, including a suitable gas point and cabinet clearance below the hob, is the customer's responsibility. The Flame Failure Device interrupts gas supply to a burner when that burner's flame is extinguished; it is a safety feature only, is not a gas leak detector, does not protect against leaks elsewhere in the installation, and does not make it safe to leave cooking unattended. The appliance must be used only in a well-ventilated kitchen and never for space heating; the cylinder valve should be closed after use, and leak testing must be carried out with soap solution and never with a flame. Burner spacing on a 60 cm four-burner hob is closer than on wider models and may not accommodate four large vessels simultaneously. Flame output, gas consumption, cooking times, ignition reliability, FFD response and burner life depend on gas quality and pressure, regulator condition, installation, burner and sensor cleanliness, cookware size, weight and material, ambient conditions, user technique and maintenance; brass burners discolour with normal use, which is not a defect. Individual burner heat ratings and cut-out dimensions are not stated in supplier material and should be confirmed with us before purchase or installation.
