Almost everyone buys a 1.5 ton or a 2 ton, because those are the sizes shops stock — and for a lot of rooms both are wrong. A 1.5 ton in a room that's too big runs flat out all day, never quite gets there, and costs you money doing it. A 2 ton in that same room is oversized: it cools the air fast, hits the set temperature, and switches down before it has pulled the humidity out — which is why an oversized AC leaves a room feeling cold and clammy rather than comfortable. 1.8 ton exists precisely for the gap in between. It suits a larger bedroom, a small living room, a room with a west-facing wall or a lot of glass, or a top-floor flat where the ceiling takes the sun all afternoon. Tell us the room's size, its floor, and which way it faces, and we'll tell you honestly whether 1.5, 1.8 or 2 ton is right — getting this wrong costs more than the price difference ever will.
Rated to 52°C outdoors — the number that matters in a Delhi May
Every air conditioner is tested and rated at 35°C outdoor temperature. Delhi does not stay at 35°C. What decides whether your AC copes in the third week of May is how it behaves when the outdoor unit is sitting on a hot terrace in 47°C air with the sun on it. An AC's job is to dump your room's heat outside — and the hotter it is out there, the harder that gets, which is why underspecified machines simply stop keeping up on the worst afternoons of the year. Daikin rate this to keep cooling at ambient temperatures up to 52°C. That is the specification worth asking every brand for, and many won't state it. Give the outdoor unit shade and clear airflow if you possibly can — even a rated machine works less hard, and lasts longer, when it isn't baking in direct sun.
Dew Clean — the feature that saves you a service call, and your air quality
The part of an air conditioner nobody sees is the indoor coil, and it is the part that decides what your room smells like. Condensation forms on that coil every time the AC runs, dust sticks to the wet surface, and over a season it becomes a damp layer of grime — which is the actual source of the musty smell people notice when they switch on an AC after a few weeks off. It also insulates the coil, so cooling drops and the machine works harder. Dew Clean uses the unit's own condensation to wash that coil and then dries it, automatically, without you doing anything. It doesn't replace an annual professional service — filters still need washing and the outdoor unit still needs attention — but it keeps the coil in far better condition between services, which shows up as cleaner air and steadier cooling.
