Large air conditioners are usually loud ones, and that is the trade people accept without being told about it. A bigger machine moves more air, which means a bigger indoor fan, and a bigger fan at speed is what you actually hear all night. 39 dB on a 2.2 ton unit is genuinely low for the class — quiet enough that it disappears into the background rather than sitting in the room with you. That comes from the rotary scroll compressor, which runs smoother than older reciprocating designs, and from the fan blade profile. It matters most in exactly the rooms a 2.2 ton gets installed in: a large bedroom where someone is trying to sleep, a home office where you're on calls, a living room where the television is on. Noise is the specification most buyers never ask for and most regret ignoring — ask any competing model for its dB figure before you compare on price.
Rated to 54°C outdoors — and why that isn't the same as the weather report
Air conditioners are tested and rated at 35°C outdoor temperature, which is a number Delhi leaves behind in April. What decides whether yours copes through May is what happens at the outdoor unit, and the air around an ODU is hotter than the forecast. A unit sitting on a terrace or against a west-facing wall, with the sun on it and heat radiating off the concrete, sees temperatures well above the shade reading. That is why underspecified machines simply stop keeping up on the worst afternoons — the AC's whole job is to dump your room's heat outside, and the hotter it is out there, the harder that becomes. This is rated to keep cooling at ambient temperatures up to 54°C. Ask any competing brand for their figure; many don't publish one. And wherever you can, give the outdoor unit shade and clear air on all sides — even a rated machine works less hard and lasts longer when it isn't baking.
Dry Mode — the setting for July, and the one nobody uses
Delhi's monsoon problem isn't heat, it's humidity. At 30°C and heavily humid, a room feels unbearable even though the thermometer says it shouldn't — and the instinct is to run the AC in cool mode, which overcools the room while barely touching the damp. You end up cold and still sticky, with the electricity bill of a hot day. Dry Mode does the opposite job: the compressor runs at reduced capacity while the coil is held at a temperature that condenses moisture out of the air, so humidity comes down without the room temperature dropping much. The result is a room that feels comfortable at a temperature you'd otherwise find muggy, at lower power draw than full cooling. From July to September it is the setting to use, and most owners never touch it because nobody explained what it was for.
