💨 Coanda Airflow — how air styles hair better than heat ever could
- The Coanda effect is a physics phenomenon: high-speed airflow naturally curves and attaches to surfaces. Dyson harnessed this to make hair naturally wrap around the barrel using air attraction — no clamps, no gripping, no mechanical damage
- Traditional curling irons work by applying direct heat to hair through barrel contact — creating thermal stress even at "safe" temperatures
- Coanda airflow creates the curl shape through air movement rather than heat contact — the result is the same curl shape with significantly less thermal stress on each strand
- Works on both clockwise and anti-clockwise curl directions from a single barrel — the conical design routes airflow in either direction on demand

Intelligent heat control below 150°C — 40 temperature measurements per second
Traditional flat irons and curling wands often exceed 200°C even on "medium" settings — above the temperature at which keratin proteins in hair begin to permanently degrade. Dyson's intelligent heat control system measures airflow temperature 40 times per second and makes continuous micro-adjustments to maintain styling temperature below 150°C. Hair is styled without exposing it to the temperatures that cause protein damage, moisture loss, cuticle lifting, and long-term brittleness. For Indian hair that is typically already prone to frizz and dryness, this protection is particularly meaningful.
