Description
The Curl Forms Itself.
Air Does the Wrapping, Not Heat.
The original Airwrap, in its simplified three-attachment form · Coanda technology — a jet of air travelling along a curved surface pulls hair toward it, so a section wraps itself around the barrel on its own rather than being clamped and baked into shape · the 40 mm barrel self-wraps in both directions for curls or waves without swapping ends · an anti-snag loop brush that redirects airflow in the direction you are brushing, for smooth straight styles · a fast dryer for rough-drying before you style · driven by a Dyson digital motor at 110,000 rpm · intelligent heat control holds airflow under 150°C, checking it more than 40 times a second · 3 speeds, 3 heat settings and a cold shot · 2 year warranty
Coanda
effectthe physics, in plain terms
This is the thing worth understanding, because it is what you are paying for and it is genuinely different from every tong on the shelf. The Coanda effect is a property of moving air: a fast jet passing along a curved surface stays attached to that curve rather than travelling straight on, and it drags the surrounding air — and anything light in it — along with it. Dyson uses that to style. Hold a damp section near the barrel and the airflow catches the ends, pulls them in, and the hair wraps itself around the barrel without you winding it. Then the same airflow dries it in that shape. A conventional tong does the opposite: it clamps hair between hot metal plates and sets the shape by heat alone, which is why tongs run at 180 to 220°C and why repeated use dulls and weakens hair. Here the shape comes from airflow, so far less heat is needed. Ask for a demonstration — watching a section wrap itself is the whole sales argument.
Under 150°C, checked 40 times a second
Hair keratin begins to change structurally at sustained temperatures above roughly 150°C, which is precisely where most straighteners and curling tongs operate — commonly 180 to 230°C. That is the mechanism behind dullness, brittleness and split ends after months of daily styling. The Airwrap holds airflow temperature below 150°C, and the reason it can promise that is the measurement rate: a thermistor samples the air more than forty times every second and the machine adjusts the heating element continuously. A cheap dryer with a simple thermostat overshoots between cycles, so its actual peak is far higher than its nominal setting. Two practical points follow. Use the cold shot to set each curl before releasing it — cooling is what fixes the shape and makes it last. And style at the lowest heat that works for your hair; the extra settings exist for thickness, not for speed.
The one technique that decides whether it works for you
Almost every disappointed Airwrap owner has made the same mistake, so it is worth knowing before you buy rather than after. Coanda styling needs hair that is damp, not dry and not wet. The airflow shapes hair while the last of the moisture leaves it, and that transition is what sets the style — so on fully dry hair the section will not wrap or hold, and on soaking wet hair it takes far too long and drops. The correct sequence is: towel-dry, then use the supplied fast dryer attachment to rough-dry until the hair is about 80 percent dry and just cool to the touch, then switch to the barrel or brush. That is exactly why a dryer attachment is included rather than sold separately. Work in small sections, and finish each one with the cold shot. Get the dampness right and it performs as promised; get it wrong and no setting will fix it.
🧴 The three attachments
40 mm Barrel
Self-wraps both directions — curls and waves
Anti-Snag Loop Brush
Smooth, straight styles without snagging
Fast Dryer
Rough-dries in preparation for styling
Origin is the simplified three-attachment Airwrap. The wider Airwrap range adds further barrel sizes and brushes — if you want a smaller barrel for tighter curls or a round volumising brush, tell us and we will show you which model carries them.
🎯 Suited to
Worth being realistic: Coanda styling takes practice. The first two or three attempts are usually clumsy, and the technique clicks after that. The MyDyson app carries technique guidance from Dyson's own stylists, and it is genuinely worth using in the first week.
The 40 mm barrel self-wraps clockwise and anticlockwise, so you can alternate curl direction for a natural finish without changing attachment.
Loop bristles redirect airflow the way you are brushing, so hair is pulled smooth rather than caught and tugged.
Not a momentary button — sustained cold air to set each section, which is what makes a style hold through the day.
Light enough to hold above your head through a full styling session without your arm tiring.

Warranty as per Dyson India terms and conditions — 2 years as stated in supplier material. The scope of cover, parts and labour, exclusions, product registration requirements and the service process are subject to brand policy and the final invoice or warranty card. Attachments, filters and cords may be treated as wear or accessory items and covered differently; damage arising from misuse, water ingress, operation with a blocked filter, use on synthetic hair or unauthorised servicing is commonly excluded. Operating voltage, cord length, inclusion of a storage case or filter cleaning brush, noise level and country of origin are not stated in supplier material and should be confirmed before purchase. Some supplier copy for this model describes styling with no heat damage; the manufacturer's own technical description states that intelligent heat control measures airflow temperature over 40 times a second and keeps it under 150°C, thereby preventing extreme heat damage. This is heat regulation rather than the absence of heat, and no claim is made that the appliance cannot affect hair condition. Wattage of 1300 W is the electrical input rating. Motor speed, airflow temperature, measurement frequency, weight and dimensions are manufacturer specifications measured under their own test conditions. Styling results depend substantially on hair type, length, thickness, condition, moisture level, product used, sectioning and technique; Coanda styling requires hair that is damp rather than dry or wet, and typically requires practice before consistent results are achieved. Explanations of the Coanda effect, keratin behaviour at temperature and styling technique provided here are general information to aid understanding and are not manufacturer specifications or claims about hair health. This product is a personal styling appliance and not a medical device. It is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any condition, and no claim is made regarding hair or scalp health. App features require a compatible smartphone and are provided subject to the manufacturer's terms. The appliance must never be used near water, in a bathroom where it may fall into a basin or bath, or with wet hands, and should be unplugged when not in use. Attachments become hot during use and remain hot after switch-off and must be allowed to cool before handling, changing or storage. Airflow must be kept away from the eyes and face. The air inlet filter must be kept clean and unobstructed; a blocked filter reduces airflow and may cause the appliance to cut out. The appliance must not be used on synthetic hair, wigs or extensions unless confirmed heat-safe by their manufacturer, must not be used by children unsupervised, and must not be used in the presence of aerosol or flammable hair products while running. Use must be discontinued if the cord or plug is damaged, if the appliance overheats, or if airflow, sound or smell changes.
