Almost every air purifier in the market advertises PM2.5, and most buyers assume that is the standard. It is worth understanding what that leaves out. PM2.5 means particles 2.5 microns across and larger — dust, pollen, larger smoke particles. This machine is rated to PM0.3, which is roughly eight times smaller by diameter, and the gap between the two is where a lot of Delhi's air actually sits. The finest particles come from combustion: vehicle exhaust, generators, crop burning, the winter smoke that settles over the city. Those ultrafine particles are also the ones that stay suspended in the air longest rather than settling out. A purifier rated only to PM2.5 lets a meaningful proportion of them pass straight through. So when you compare purifiers on their capture percentage, check what particle size that percentage refers to — 99% at PM2.5 and 99.97% at PM0.3 are not the same claim at all, and the size matters more than the decimal places.
The carbon layer — for the pollution you can smell
Particles are only half of what is in indoor air, and filters that catch particles do nothing at all about the other half. Gases and volatile organic compounds pass straight through any purely particulate filter regardless of how fine it is — cooking smells, paint and varnish fumes, cleaning products, new furniture off-gassing, and the exhaust gases that come in through a window facing a main road. Those need a different mechanism: activated carbon, which is carbon processed to be enormously porous so that gas molecules adhere to its surface as air passes through. This model's filter combines both — a 360° electrostatic element for particles and an activated carbon layer for gases and odours — in one unit, so a single change every few years covers both jobs. If you cook a lot, live on a busy road, or have recently painted or renovated, the carbon layer is doing as much work as the particle side.
White and silver — which one to put where
This machine comes in white with silver and in black with teal, at exactly the same price, and the choice is worth thinking about for a minute rather than defaulting. White reads as smaller than it is. A pale object against a pale wall recedes visually, so in a bedroom or a small study the white one is much less present than a dark one of identical size — which matters for something that lives permanently in a corner rather than being put away. White also suits the light interiors and pale walls most Delhi apartments have. The honest trade-off is marking: white shows dust settling on the top surface, and the irony of an air purifier is that its own casing collects exactly what it is removing. It wipes off in seconds and it is genuinely a good indication that the machine is in the right spot — but if you want the machine to look untouched between cleans, the black one hides it better.
