The Supersonic looks the way it does — that hollow ring where a normal dryer has a barrel — for one reason, and it's a genuinely good engineering story. Every conventional hair dryer puts a fan and a motor in the head, out at the far end of the tool. That's a mass sitting at the end of a lever, and your wrist has to hold it up and rotate it for twenty or thirty minutes, which is why arms ache during a long blow-dry and why people rush the back of the head. Dyson's answer was to build a motor small enough to move. The V9 spins at up to 110,000 rpm — many times faster than a conventional dryer motor — and going fast is what lets it be small, because a small fast fan moves the same air as a large slow one. Small enough, in fact, to sit in the handle, right where your hand already is. The weight moves from the end of the lever to the pivot, and the tool stops fighting you. At 655 g it isn't the lightest dryer you can buy — but it's balanced, and balance is what your wrist actually notices.
The wide-tooth comb — the attachment most people leave in the box
Of the five attachments this is the one nobody uses, and for a lot of Indian hair it is the most useful of the set. Here is the problem it solves. Thick, coarse, wavy or curly hair dries into whatever shape it happens to be sitting in, and if you dry it loose it sets in its own pattern — shorter, denser and harder to work with afterwards. The usual fix is drying with a brush in one hand and a dryer in the other, which is awkward, slow, and needs a skill most people never learn properly. The wide-tooth comb puts the two jobs in one hand. You draw the tool through a section, the comb holds gentle tension and separates the hair, and the airflow dries it in that stretched, lengthened position. The result is hair that dries longer, straighter and far more manageable than it would left to itself — without a straightener, and without heat sitting in one place. All magnetic and rotatable through 360° while the dryer is running — which is the reason you'll actually change them rather than drying the whole head with whatever was already fitted. The Flyaway attachment uses the Coanda effect: air clinging to a curved surface splits into two streams, one lifting the long hairs and one tucking the short ones underneath.
