Two things to sort out before delivery day
First, transit bolts. Every front load washing machine ships with bolts through the back that lock the drum for transport, and they must be removed before the first wash — running a machine with them still fitted causes serious damage and is not covered by warranty. Your installer will do this; make sure it happens and keep the bolts. Second, this needs a water inlet, a drain point and a properly earthed socket within reach of the machine. An inverter motor is a different design from a conventional washing machine motor, and the warranty reflects it. A traditional motor drives the drum through a belt and runs at fixed speeds, so it starts and stops abruptly and the belt is a wear item. An inverter motor varies its speed electronically and is typically direct drive, with far fewer moving parts to wear out — which is why it runs more quietly, vibrates less, and why Godrej is prepared to warrant it for a decade. Two things follow that matter in daily use. The reduced vibration is what makes a 1400 RPM spin bearable in a flat rather than something that walks across the floor. And the variable speed is a large part of why this achieves a 5 star rating: the motor uses only the power the load actually needs rather than running flat out and throttling. Ask what the motor warranty is on any machine you compare — it tells you what the manufacturer expects it to survive.
1400 RPM — the number that matters most in a Delhi monsoon
Spin speed decides how much water is left in your clothes when the cycle ends, and that decides how long they take to dry. A basic machine spinning at 800 or 1000 RPM leaves clothes noticeably heavy and damp. At 1400 RPM considerably more water is thrown out, and laundry comes out ready to hang rather than dripping. In Delhi that matters in two specific situations. Through the monsoon, when nothing dries properly and damp clothes start to smell, a faster spin is the difference between laundry drying indoors overnight and still being damp the next evening. And in winter, when there is little sun and drying takes days. One practical note: heavy items like jeans and towels benefit most, while delicates should be spun slower — which is what the programme selection is for. If you use a dryer, a higher spin also cuts dryer time and running cost significantly.
The inbuilt heater and Steam Wash — what a hot wash actually does
Most Indian households wash in whatever temperature comes out of the tap, and for everyday clothes that is fine. An inbuilt heater matters for the loads where it is not. Detergents work considerably better in warm water, and oil, grease and body soils on collars and cuffs simply do not shift properly in cold water — which is why a shirt collar stays grey however many times it is washed. Heating to 90°C also handles bedding, towels and baby clothes thoroughly, and helps with the dust mite debris that builds up in bedding. Steam Wash adds moisture to the drum to loosen soil in the fabric before washing. Two sensible cautions. Hot washes are for cottons and whites — never for wool, silk or anything the care label restricts, and colours can fade at high temperature. And a hot cycle uses substantially more electricity than a cold one, so keep it for the loads that need it.
Front load care — three habits that prevent the smell
The one genuine complaint about front load machines is that they can develop a musty smell, and it is entirely preventable. It happens because the rubber door seal traps water, and the machine sits sealed shut in a warm room between washes. Three habits fix it permanently. First, leave the door and the detergent drawer ajar between washes so the drum dries out — this alone solves most cases. Second, wipe the rubber gasket dry occasionally and pull it back to clear the hair, lint and coins that collect in the fold. Third, run an empty hot cycle once a month with the drum empty, which is exactly what the 90°C heater is useful for. Also worth knowing: use only front-load detergent, which is low-suds — ordinary top-load powder foams excessively in a front loader, cushions the wash and leaves residue. Do that and it will smell of nothing at all after five years.

Delay start is more useful than it sounds in Delhi — set the wash to finish just before you get home, so laundry is not sitting damp in a sealed drum for hours. And the adjustable legs are not a detail: a 1400 RPM spin on an unlevelled machine will vibrate badly.
