Here's what happens in an ordinary geyser: as you draw hot water out, cold water rushes in to replace it — and it mixes with the hot water still in the tank. So a 15-litre geyser never actually gives you 15 litres of hot water; the last few litres come out lukewarm, which is why showers run cold before the tank is empty.
