Radiant
heatlike sunlight, not like a fan heater

The difference between radiant and convection heating is the single most useful thing to understand when choosing a heater, and it decides whether you will be happy with this one. Convection heaters — oil-filled radiators, fan heaters — warm the air, which then circulates and gradually brings the whole room up to temperature. That takes time, but the warmth lingers after you switch off. Radiant heaters like this one emit infrared that travels in a straight line and warms objects and people directly, exactly as sunlight through a window feels warm even on a cold day. Two consequences follow. You feel it instantly, with no waiting — genuinely within seconds. And the effect is directional: it warms what it points at, so sitting in front of it is very comfortable while the far corner of the room stays cold. Use it where people actually sit, and it is superb.

🔬 Halogen or oil-filled radiator — an honest comparison

🔥 Halogen (this heater)

  • Warm within seconds of switching on
  • Warms you directly, in its line of sight
  • Light and easy to move between rooms
  • Costs far less to buy
  • 400 W setting is very economical
  • Surfaces get extremely hot in use
  • Warmth stops when you switch it off

🛢️ Oil-filled radiator

  • Takes 15–20 minutes to warm a room
  • Warms the whole room's air evenly
  • Heavy, though usually on castors
  • Costs considerably more
  • Typically draws more power
  • Surface warm rather than dangerously hot
  • Stays warm for a while after switch-off

Neither is better — they do different jobs. A desk, a bathroom, a bedside, or a room used for an hour at a time suits halogen. A room where a family sits all evening, or a bedroom you want warm all night, suits an oil-filled radiator — and we stock those too.

Three settings — and why the 400 W one matters most

The three heat settings come from switching one, two or all three halogen tubes on, giving 400 W, 800 W and 1200 W. That is more useful than it sounds, because a heater is one of the heaviest loads in an Indian home and electricity is billed in slabs. Delhi winters are not uniformly cold: in November and February a single tube at 400 W is usually plenty for one person at a desk, and running at that setting costs a third of what full power does. Save 1200 W for the genuinely cold fortnight in late December and January. Most people simply switch a heater to maximum and leave it there, then are surprised by the bill — a heater run at full power for several hours daily makes a visible difference to a monthly reading. Get into the habit of starting on the lowest setting and stepping up only if you need it.

🛡️

The tip-over switch — the feature that matters most on a halogen heater

Halogen tubes reach very high temperatures, and that is exactly why a tip-over cut-off is not an optional extra on this type of heater. If the unit is knocked over — by a child, a pet, a foot catching the cord — a weighted switch in the base detects that it is no longer upright and cuts the power immediately, before the hot face can rest against carpet, bedding or a curtain. The front safety grill does the related job of keeping hands, clothing and curious fingers away from the tubes while it is running. Neither replaces sensible placement. Stand it on a hard, level floor where it cannot be tripped over, keep it well clear of anything that can burn, and never leave it running unattended or overnight. Please read the full safety notes below — with this category of heater they genuinely matter.

🎯 Suited to

Desks & Study Areas Bathrooms Before A Bath Sitting Areas & Sofas Small Bedrooms Shop Counters & Cabins Short Bursts Of Warmth

Not the right heater for a large hall, for keeping a room warm all night, or for a nursery or a room where a child sleeps unsupervised. Tell us how you plan to use it and we will point you at the right type — sometimes that will not be this one.

🔁 Oscillation

Sweeps the heat across an arc instead of aiming at one point — so two people on a sofa both get warmth rather than one roasting and one cold.

✨ Rust-Free Reflector

The polished reflector pushes heat forward instead of losing it backwards. Rust-free matters because a corroded reflector scatters heat and looks poor.

🧳 Light Enough To Carry

A slim tower form, so it moves from the study to the bathroom to the bedroom as the evening goes on rather than living in one place.

🏠 Home Service Warranty

⚠️ This heater reaches very high surface temperatures. Please read all of this — with halogen heaters it genuinely matters. 1. Keep at least a metre clear in front of it. Curtains, bedding, sofas, cushions, clothes, newspaper, furniture — anything that can burn must be well away from the front face. This is the commonest cause of heater fires. 2. Never dry clothes on or in front of it, and never cover it, even partly. 3. Never leave it running unattended or overnight, and switch it off when you leave the room. 4. Keep children and pets away. The grill and front face become hot enough to cause a serious burn on contact. The grill prevents accidental touching of the tubes but does not stay cool itself. 5. Stand it on a hard, level, stable floor — never on carpet pile, a rug edge, a bed, or any soft or uneven surface, and never on a table or shelf where it can fall. 6. Route the cord where nobody can trip on it and where it cannot run in front of the heater. 7. Plug directly into a properly rated, earthed wall socket. At 1200 W do not use a light-duty extension board or a multi-way adaptor shared with other appliances. 8. Do not use it in a bathroom where it can be splashed, near a basin or shower, or with wet hands. Never use it outdoors or in damp conditions. 9. Do not insert anything through the grill, and do not touch the tubes at any time. 10. Let it cool completely before moving, cleaning or storing it, and always unplug first. 11. Do not use it in a room where someone is sleeping unsupervised, particularly a child or an elderly person. 12. Do not use it with a timer, programmer or any device that switches it on automatically when nobody is present. 13. Halogen tubes are fragile — handle the unit gently and do not operate it if a tube is cracked or broken. 14. Stop using it immediately and call us if the cord or plug is damaged, if it trips your supply, if you smell burning, or if the tip-over switch does not cut the power when the unit is tilted.

Warranty as per Havells terms and conditions — 2 year warranty with home service as stated in supplier material. The scope of cover, coverage of halogen tubes, switches, oscillation mechanism, tip-over switch, reflector and body, parts and labour, home service availability by location, exclusions, product registration and the service process are subject to Havells brand policy and the final invoice or warranty documentation and should be confirmed before purchase; halogen tubes are consumable items and their warranty treatment should be confirmed. Damage arising from misuse, covering the appliance, operation near combustible materials, unsuitable or unearthed electrical supply, liquid ingress, impact damage to tubes or unauthorised servicing is commonly excluded. Dimensions, weight, recommended room size, oscillation angle, presence of a thermostat or timer, any separate overheat cut-out, cord length, replacement tube availability and ISI or BIS certification are not stated in supplier material and should be confirmed before purchase; this appears to be a manually switched heater without thermostatic temperature control. Wattage ratings of 400 W, 800 W and 1200 W and the three-tube configuration are manufacturer specifications; actual perceived warmth, area covered and running cost vary with room size, ceiling height, insulation, draughts, distance from the appliance, occupancy, selected setting, duration of use, supply voltage and the applicable electricity tariff slab. Statements about relative running cost between settings describe the proportional difference in rated power draw and are not a guarantee of any particular bill. This product is a radiant halogen heater: it emits infrared heat which warms people and objects in its direct line of sight rather than heating the air of an entire room evenly, its warmth is directional, and it does not retain heat after being switched off. Comparisons with oil-filled radiators and convection heaters are general information about heater types provided to aid understanding and are not manufacturer specifications. This product is a household appliance and not a medical device; no health, respiratory, humidity or air-quality outcome is claimed or implied. This appliance reaches very high surface temperatures in operation and presents burn and fire risks if used incorrectly. It must be kept well clear of curtains, bedding, upholstery, clothing, paper, furniture and all other combustible materials, must never be covered or used to dry clothing, must not be left operating unattended or overnight, and must not be used in a room where a person is sleeping unsupervised. It must be placed upright on a hard, level, stable floor, never on carpet pile, soft furnishings, tables or shelves, and the cord must be routed clear of walkways and of the heater's front face. It must be plugged directly into a properly rated earthed wall socket and not through light-duty extension boards or shared multi-way adaptors, and must not be connected to any timer or automatic switching device. It must not be used in bathrooms where splashing may occur, near water, outdoors, in damp conditions or with wet hands. Objects must never be inserted through the safety grill, the grill and front face become hot in use, and children and pets must be kept away. The appliance must be unplugged and allowed to cool completely before being moved, cleaned or stored. Halogen tubes are fragile and the appliance must not be operated with a damaged or cracked tube. Discontinue use immediately and seek service if the cord or plug is damaged, if the appliance trips the electrical supply, if burning odour is detected, or if the tip-over protection switch fails to cut power when the appliance is tilted.
