One speaker, and the whole drawing room is covered. Ninety watts is enough to carry a Diwali evening with twenty people in the room and the door open to the balcony, and refined enough at low volume for a Sunday morning with a newspaper. The pair of 25 mm tweeters keep the detail — the breath before a line, the brush on a cymbal — while the 5" full-range woofer carries the voice and the body of the music. Underneath, a 6" down-firing passive radiator pushes bass into the floor or the shelf it stands on, taking the response down to 50 Hz from a cabinet this size.
The down-firing passive radiator — how JBL gets 50 Hz out of a shelf-sized cabinet
A passive radiator is a cone with no motor of its own. It is tuned to resonate with the pressure the 5" woofer creates inside the sealed cabinet, so it keeps moving air exactly where the woofer's own output starts to fall away. JBL points it downward, so that low-frequency energy couples into the floor, shelf or sideboard the Authentics 200 is standing on and spreads through the room instead of firing at one wall. The result is bass you feel from a speaker that fits on a console table — and, in JBL's signature style, the pattern surrounding that radiator is a design element in its own right rather than something hidden underneath.

The Quadrex grille, the custom leather-like enclosure and the premium aluminium frame come straight from JBL's classic era, and they sit as easily in a Delhi flat's living room as they would in a studio.
