Aroma G3 Grinder + P.E.P.® — the two technologies that define the E8's cup quality
The E8's Aroma G3 grinder (JURA's Professional Aroma Grinder, third generation) is the first flavour-determining component in the coffee-making process — grinding happens before water contact, and grind quality directly determines extraction quality. The G3 designation reflects JURA's claim of 12.2% more aroma compared to conventional grinders, achieved through two design characteristics: burr geometry optimised for minimal heat generation during grinding (heat during grinding accelerates aromatic compound volatilisation from the ground coffee surface — cooler grinding preserves aromatics in the grounds until hot water extraction releases them into the cup), and grinding speed 2× faster than conventional burr grinders (less time between grinding and extraction means less aromatic loss to ambient air during the grind cycle). The 6 adjustable grind levels allow the user to tune grind coarseness to bean type and roast level — darker roasts expand during roasting and require slightly coarser grinds to prevent over-extraction; lighter roasts are denser and benefit from finer grinds. I.W.S. with RFID + Cockpit Display — water intelligence and machine management
The Intelligent Water System (I.W.S.) with RFID is JURA's water management platform — addressing the two primary water-related failure modes in automatic espresso machines: limescale accumulation and suboptimal water chemistry. RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) enables the E8 to automatically detect whether a JURA filter cartridge (the CLARIS filter) is installed in the water tank. The filter cartridge contains a small RFID chip that the machine reads at startup and periodically during operation — when the chip is detected, the machine activates the enhanced filtration operating mode that routes water through the filter before the brewing circuit.
