A stabiliser must be rated above the load it carries — undersize it and it runs hot, trips, or fails early. As a rough guide: a 1 ton AC or a large refrigerator suits around 3 KVA, a 1.5 to 2 ton AC suits 4 KVA, and larger or multiple appliances need more. Bear in mind that an air conditioner draws a surge at startup well above its running figure, which is exactly what an undersized stabiliser can't handle. 4 KVA is the standard choice for a 1.5 or 2 ton split AC.
