Three different jobs need three different technologies, and on most purifiers that means three separate filters to identify, order and stack in the right sequence. Get one wrong or fit them out of order and the machine underperforms without telling you. The FY1700/30 integrates all three into a single cylindrical module: the pre-filter catches large dust and hair before they reach anything else, the NanoProtect HEPA layer handles ultrafine particulate, and the activated carbon layer deals with gases and odours. One part number, one item to order, and a replacement that takes seconds and can't be done wrong.
Electrostatically charged โ why it filters faster than standard H13 HEPA
A conventional HEPA filter works by being dense: air is forced through a tightly packed mat and particles are strained out mechanically, which is effective but restrictive. Philips' NanoProtect Pro HEPA adds an electrostatic charge to the fibres, so particles are actively attracted to them rather than relying on physical interception alone. That means the media can be less restrictive while still capturing 99.97% of particles down to 0.003 microns โ roughly 100 times smaller than PM2.5 โ and it filters faster than conventional H13 HEPA. In a room, that translates to clean air delivered sooner rather than a fan working harder for the same result.
The Air+ app tells you when โ so you don't have to guess
The hardest part of owning an air purifier is knowing when the filter is spent, because a saturated filter looks and sounds exactly like a new one โ the machine keeps running and quietly stops cleaning. Connected to the Philips Air+ app, this purifier tracks remaining filter life in real time, sends an automatic replacement alert when it's due, and lets you order without hunting for the part number. Between alerts, the maintenance is simple: clean the pre-filter every 2โ4 weeks, and replace the whole cartridge when the purifier tells you to.

Formaldehyde absorption is worth more than people realise after a renovation โ plywood, laminates and fresh paint off-gas for months, and it's one of the few indoor pollutants you often can't smell at the levels that matter.
Roughly a year of use, though heavier pollution or continuous running shortens it. Through a Delhi winter with the purifier working hard, expect the earlier end of that range.
