Indian presets
Most induction cooktops give you a wattage dial and leave you to guess β which is why people buy one, struggle to get an idli right, and go back to gas. This one has eight presets calibrated for Indian cooking: Pressure Cook, Curry, Dosa/Chapati, Idli, Deep Fry, Heat Milk, Keep Warm and SautΓ©. Each holds the power and temperature profile that dish actually needs β a dosa tawa wants steady moderate heat, milk wants gentle heat that won't catch, a pressure cooker wants full power then a drop. Press one button and the cooktop manages it, which is what makes an induction plate usable by everyone in the house rather than only whoever learnt its quirks.
4 KV surge protection β the spec that decides whether it survives
Induction cooktops are electronics, and electronics are what voltage spikes kill. A surge when the power returns after a cut, or when a heavy motor starts on the same line, is the most common way a cheap induction plate dies β usually within a year or two, and usually just outside warranty. 4 KV protection means the cooktop is built to absorb spikes up to 4000 volts without damage. On a βΉ3,192 appliance that's the difference between one you replace every two years and one that's still working in year six β and it's the reason to buy a known brand rather than the cheapest plate available.
Before you buy: check your cookware
This is the one thing nobody tells people, and it causes most induction disappointment. Induction only works with magnetic cookware. Steel and iron vessels work β your existing kadhai, tawa and steel pressure cooker most likely will. Pure aluminium, brass, copper and most ceramic will not, no matter how good the cooktop is. The quick test: if a fridge magnet sticks firmly to the base, it will work on induction. The vessel also needs a flat base β a rounded-bottom kadhai won't make proper contact. Bring a vessel in and we'll test it on the counter, or ask us about induction-compatible cookware to go with it.
β¨ Why induction
No Open Flame
Safer around children and loose clothing
Direct Heating
Heats the vessel, not the room
Flat Surface
No burner grates to scrub
Portable
Plug it in anywhere with a socket
π The eight presets
Heat Milk is the one people are surprised by β it holds gentle heat so milk doesn't catch at the bottom or boil over, which on a gas flame needs watching the whole time.
ποΈ Controls and build
The timer is more useful than it sounds β set it for rice or a pressure cooker and the cooktop switches off on its own rather than relying on you remembering.
At 2.84 kg it stores in a cupboard between uses β the easiest way to add a burner when you're cooking for guests.
Where a gas connection isn't allowed or practical, a portable induction plate is often the only cooking option β and this one has real presets.
Induction heats the vessel directly rather than the surrounding air, so a Delhi summer kitchen stays noticeably more bearable than over a gas flame.

Warranty as per Prestige's terms and conditions; please refer to the warranty card supplied with the product.
