PC + TPUtwo materials, two jobs
A case made from one material always compromises. Hard plastic alone is rigid — it resists scratches but transmits the shock straight through to the phone. Soft rubber alone absorbs impact but flexes enough to let the phone hit whatever it landed on. The Shield Case uses both: a polycarbonate outer shell that takes the abrasion and spreads the force of an impact across the whole case, and a TPU layer that absorbs and dissipates it before it reaches the phone. Together they deliver shock absorbance for tough drops, scratches and bumps — which is what "rugged" should mean rather than simply "thick".
Raised edges — the detail that decides a face-down drop
The two most expensive things to break on a Galaxy S24 Ultra are the display and the camera glass, and both sit proud of the body. A case that ends flush with them offers no protection at all when the phone lands face-down on a table or camera-down on gravel — which is how most damage actually happens. The Shield Case has raised edges around both the screen and the camera, creating a lip so the case makes contact first and the glass never touches the surface. It's a millimetre or two of design that stands between an awkward moment and a repair bill.
Recycled materials, independently certified
Plenty of products claim recycled content; far fewer state a figure and have it verified. This case is made with 50% recycled PCM polycarbonate and 10% recycled TPU, and it's UL certified — an independent verification of that claim rather than a marketing line. For anyone who thinks about what their accessories are made from, or any business reporting on procurement, that's a meaningful difference from a generic case of unknown composition. Notably, it doesn't cost anything in protection: the recycled material performs the same job as virgin plastic would.
