Delhi mornings run on chai, and nobody has ten minutes to stand over a kettle. A 2400 W element drives a full 1.7 litres to a rolling boil while you are still lining up the cups — enough for six to seven cups in one go, so the whole family's first round is poured together instead of in shifts. On a winter morning when the flat is cold and everybody wants tea at once, or at 11 PM when guests turn up unannounced, the kettle keeps pace with the room rather than holding it up. And because the element does its work quickly, the kitchen counter is clear again in minutes.
SMEG 50's Retro Style — Italian design since 1948, on your counter
SMEG has been building appliances in Emilia-Romagna, Italy since 1948, and the 50's Retro Style line is the one that made the brand a household name. The KLF03PGEU carries the full design language: soft rounded forms instead of hard modern angles, a die-cast chrome handle and lid knob, and the signature Pastel Green body finished to a depth you can see across a room. The lid knob opens through a precise 80°, weighted so it feels like a piece of hardware rather than a plastic catch. In a compact Delhi flat where the kitchen counter is visible from the dining table, this is the rare appliance you leave out on display — and it sits in the same 50's Retro family as the rest of SMEG's kitchen line, so a matched set actually looks like a set.
Double-wall construction — hot water inside, a body you can hold outside
The KLF03PGEU is built as two shells with an insulating air gap between them. The inner body is stainless steel, so boiling water only ever touches food-safe metal — no plastic taste, no staining, no absorbed odours. The outer Pastel Green shell stays cool to the touch even while the water inside is at a full boil, which matters in a small kitchen where the kettle shares counter space with everything else and children are at exactly the wrong height. The same air gap works in your favour after the boil: the water holds its heat far longer than in a single-wall kettle, so the second and third cups pour hot without switching the kettle back on. Delhi's tap water is hard, borewell or tanker supply more so, and the removable stainless steel filter in the spout catches the limescale before it reaches the cup.
🛡️ Three ways it switches itself off
Boil Detection
Cuts power the moment the water reaches a full boil — no over-boiling, no wasted units
Empty Detection
Thermal protection engages when the water level is too low, protecting the element
Lift Detection
Power to the base cuts the instant the kettle is lifted off it
Limescale Filter
Removable stainless steel mesh in the spout — lift out, rinse under the tap, refit
🎨 The details that make it a SMEG
Pastel Green
The signature 50's Retro pastel — soft, distinctive, and unmistakably SMEG
Chrome Detailing
Die-cast chrome handle and lid knob — mid-century Italian design, built to weight
Soft-Opening Lid
Central button press, 80° opening — smooth, controlled, splash-safe when filling
Drip-Free Spout
Shaped for a clean cut-off — pours into the cup, not onto the counter
🛠️ Built in as standard
The 360° base is the one you notice every day — the kettle drops onto it from any angle and lifts off in either hand, so it works the same whether the socket is on your left or your right.
📦 What's in the box
Boiling water meets food-safe stainless steel and nothing else. It does not stain, does not hold onto yesterday's smell, and does not flavour the first cup of the morning — the water tastes of water, which is exactly what good tea needs.
Hard water is a fact of life across Delhi NCR, especially on borewell and tanker supply. The stainless steel mesh sits in the spout and traps the scale before it reaches your cup, and it lifts straight out for a rinse under the tap.
Fill for exactly the number of cups you need instead of guessing. Less water means a faster boil and a smaller unit on the meter — over two or three rounds of chai a day, that adds up across a year.
Seventy-plus years of Italian appliance manufacturing behind a kettle that is engineered as carefully as it is styled — die-cast chrome hardware, a weighted lid action, and a finish that still looks new after years on the counter.
